Bills' James Cook gets $15 million contract holdout update

4 hours ago 3

James Cook still doesn't have a new contract.

The Buffalo Bills' star running back entered the offseason seeking a deal worth $15 million per year. He's unlikely to get that, but he hasn't gotten anything yet.

The Bills have extended all their other key pieces, but not Cook.

Would Buffalo really let Cook walk? It remains to be seen, and it could depend on how second-year RB Ray Davis looks this year.

The Athletic's Joe Buscaglia calls Cook the Bills' biggest remaining question of the offseason.

Here's what Buscaglia writes:

"The biggest question surrounding the Bills ahead of minicamp was answered when Cook not only showed up without a contract extension signed, but also participated fully in the practices all week. When speaking with reporters, Cook remarked that he intended to be at training camp. However, when asked to clarify if he would do a hold-in and not practice despite reporting, Cook said, 'I don't know, man. We'll see when camp comes.' The last thing GM Brandon Beane said about a potential hold-in was that they haven't been given any indication that would be the case, and that Cook 'will be ready to roll whether there's a deal or not.' If no new deal is in place by camp, how Cook plays it will be the biggest story heading in."

Buffalo doesn't need any major Cook drama, and it seems like there's a decent chance there isn't any.

But that'll be hanging out there as a possibility until this situation gets cleared up.

In preparing to chase the Super Bowl that has eluded them, the Bills need everyone on board, including Cook.

So Buffalo fans will wait and hope that Cook is all-in for this season, contract or no contract.
