Bills' dominant game vs. Jets summed up by a Josh Allen bloody nose and a Mitchell Trubisky cameo

10 hours ago 3

For a moment, every fan of the Buffalo Bills held their breath.

Josh Allen was running off the field after a second-down play. Something was wrong. But what?

In the midst of the panic, Mitchell Trubisky came into the game. The backup QB had to stand in while the Bills' training staff dealt with whatever Allen had going on over on the sideline.

It was third down, and a game that ended up being incredibly one-sided wasn't yet to that point, and so it was a big moment for Trubisky.

No time to warm up needed, apparently. Joshua Palmer ran a crossing route with a defender right on his tail. Trubisky delivered a dime that hit Palmer right in stride for the first down.

Meanwhile, the CBS broadcast cameras cut to Allen, getting treatment for a bloody nose. Exhale.

Trubisky remained in until the end of the first quarter, and out of the break, Allen was back in, gauze stuffed into his left nostril.

Allen's nose swelled up as the game went on, but it didn't matter. The wedding photos are already in the books. The Bills' MVP quarterback was, all things considered, OK. And so was the entire Buffalo performance.

The Jets, coming off a nearly epic win against the Steelers in Week 1, might as well have never gotten off the bus.

The Bills scored the first 20 points, and 30 of the first 33.

James Cook ran for a short-yardage touchdown, then pulled out some magic from 44 yards out with a juke move straight out of Madden.

Aside from a couple impressive Justin Fields runs, the Jets offense couldn't do much. Concerns about the absences of Ed Oliver and Taron Johnson proved not worth sweating about.

If there was any question who the kings of the AFC East are, it was answered emphatically.

And the blowout was crucial for another reason. The Bills didn't have to stress ahead of a short week. They'll play the Miami Dolphins on Thursday Night Football, and they got to drive in some speed-limit cruise control to the finish line on Sunday. Trubisky even got to come in for the closing stages to see out the victory as Allen donned a ballcap and a smile on the sideline.

A week after one of the most epic wins in Bills history, there was no such drama needed.

All the Bills needed was a bit of gauze, a clutch throw from a backup and a whole lot of dominance sandwiched around it.
