With the Joe Brady era officially underway, the Buffalo Bills could look to move on from a veteran playmaker.
Bleacher Report's Alex Ballentine lists tight end Dawson Knox as one of Buffalo's top cut candidates for the offseason.
Here is what Ballentine had to say about Knox and why Buffalo could release the fan favorite:
Cutting Knox is a much more difficult sell. He's been a consistent presence in the Bills offense for the last seven years, but Dalton Kincaid has taken over as the team's top tight end. Unless the new coach is going to live in two-tight end sets, it doesn't make a lot of sense to pay a second tight end that much money. Knox could be an interesting trade candidate, but if the Bills can't find a buyer then he is the player who can create the most cap space if he's released. That might mean the Bills move on this spring.
Knox has been with the Bills since 2019, starting 83 games at tight end and providing quarterback Josh Allen with a dynamic security blanket and red zone threat.
However, Knox has seen his snaps dip over the last few years since Dalton Kincaid joined the team as a first-round pick in 2023.
With two years left on a three-year deal worth $29 million, Knox is a prime cut candidate. Buffalo would save $12 million by cutting him with a post June 1st designation.
Knox's play in 2025 isn't worth the paycheck he's been receiving from the Bills. Though he does have elite chemistry with Allen and has formed a nice duo with Kincaid, the best course of action for Buffalo is to release Knox and use that money elsewhere to bolster the roster.
