Bills aware of 'powerful and dangerous' Panthers duo

The Buffalo Bills will be looking to avoid a three-game losing streak when they face the Carolina Panthers in Week 8, and the defense knows it is going to be a brutal outing against Dave Canales' team.

With Rico Dowdle and Chuba Hubbard now seen as one of the better running back tandems in football, the one thing the Bills' defense struggles to do is stop the run, giving up over 100 yards in all but one game this season.

Yes, the returns of Larry Ogunjobi and Michael Hoecht will help, but head coach Sean McDermott knows how crucial it will be to stop Carolina's two bruising backs.

“I think the ability to have two guys is certainly powerful and dangerous,” McDermott said. “There's very few in the league who have two. I think overall they bring a lot to the table in terms of what they do at the line of scrimmage and the tackles they break, and I mean the numbers speak for themselves.”

Bills defense must halt Panthers run game

Carolina is on a three-game winning streak, and one of the reasons has been the offense's ability to run the football.

Rushing totals of 239, 216, and 125 in the past three weeks tell you all you need to know about how the Panthers are winning football games, and it will be up to a Buffalo defense that, in its last game against the Atlanta Falcons, gave up 210 yards on the ground, to stop them.

So, it will pit Carolina's biggest strength against Buffalo's biggest weakness, so this once "easy" game will be far from it, not to mention that the Bills' offense has struggled to find its groove over the past fortnight, too.

But with a Panthers offense that can run the ball that well, and keep the opposing offense on the sidelines, this Buffalo defense has to show something, otherwise loss number three will be forthcoming.
