Bill Simmons suggests legendary option if Bengals fire Zac Taylor

The Cincinnati Bengals find themselves at a crossroads during the bye week, holding a 4-7 record and coming off another heartbreaking prime-time loss.

The season hasn't gone how the Bengals thought it would despite quarterback Joe Burrow being on the way to the best season of his career.

Many have wondered whether head coach Zac Taylor will make it through the season, including Bill Simmons, who suggested a legendary replacement option if Taylor is given the boot.

"I don't know how Zac Taylor survives the season," Simmons said on his podcast. "This could be another job that's open, and I was thinking this is a pretty interesting (Bill) Belichick job. He's gonna get one of these jobs. It's a really interesting (Mike) Vrabel job too."

While Taylor has seemingly gotten some great production out of Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, the theme of the 2024 season has been an inability to finish.

Some of that falls on the coaching staff. Some of it falls on the players, and some of it is just plain bad luck.

However, adding Vrabel or Belichick as the head coach would likely give the Bengals a better chance at sustaining this Super Bowl window. They both are considered strong leaders and exceptional defensive minds while Burrow can lead the offensive side of the ball.

It will be interesting to see what happens coming out of the bye week, but this could be something to monitor for the offseason.
