Bill Maher says Trump ‘yells’ at him via text for remaining a part of ‘lunatic left’ after their White House dinner

Bill Maher told CNN that President Trump routinely “yells” at him via text for remaining a part of the “lunatic left” following their buddy-buddy dinner at the White House last year.

The host of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” – who faced heated backlash from leftist viewers for dining with the president last April – laughed when CNN’s Elex Michaelson asked about his relationship with Trump in an interview posted to YouTube Saturday.

When asked whether Trump texts him, Maher exclaimed: “Yes, yelling at me!”

Flailing his arms, Maher appeared to imitate Trump’s fervent texts, saying, “You’re still part of the lunatic left!”

“You know, he watches” the show, Maher added. “He gets it, that I didn’t change.”

Just a few hours before Maher’s CNN interview was uploaded Saturday, Trump tore into the late-night comedian in a brutal, nearly 500-word diatribe on Truth Social.

“It was a total waste of time for me to have this jerk at the White House,” Trump wrote, adding that Maher was “extremely nervous” and had “ZERO confidence” during their dinner last April.

“Fortunately, his Television Ratings are so low that nobody will learn about his various Fake News statements about me. He is no different than Kimmel, Fallon, or Colbert but, I must admit, slightly more talented!” he continued.

“Anyway, Bill Maher is a highly overrated LIGHTWEIGHT, and Republicans should stop using him to show how the Left is coming over our way.”

The pair made headlines when they dined together at the White House in a visit arranged by Kid Rock – a vocal Trump supporter who recently headlined an “All-American Halftime Show” for Turning Point USA to protest Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl performance.

Loyal fans of Maher – an outspoken Democrat who has long criticized Trump, accusing him of “flirting with facism” – were outraged by the dinner.

“The people who stopped watching my show because I had dinner with him are idiots, in my opinion,” Maher said during the CNN interview, noting that his stance on Trump has not changed after their private meeting.

“Now, if after I had dinner with Donald Trump, I came back to the show and was seduced by that dinner and stopped tearing him a new one every week every time I thought he did something wrong, then you would have a case. That didn’t happen.”

But Maher also argued that Trump is “very different in person” and that “everyone who’s ever met him says the same thing” – nodding to Trump’s unexpectedly cordial meeting with New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani in November.

The 34-year-old democratic socialist met with Trump in the Oval Office soon after clinching victory in the mayoral election.

It was a surprisingly friendly meeting, with Trump saying he’ll be “cheering for” Mamdani after months of the pair trading vicious barbs.
