Bill Belichick has wasted no time making moves since being hired as the North Carolina football head coach. The Tar Heels have been active in the recruiting from and the transfer portal in just a month since Belichick was hired as the replacement for Mack Brown.
Even with the NFL rumors running rampant -- and shut down by Michael Lombardi -- Belichick has landed another big addition to the roster.
On Friday, it was reported that former SMU commit Chinedu Onyeagoro has now decided to come to North Carolina, per Greg Biggins of 247Sports.
"Former SMU signee Chinedu Onyeagoro has flipped his pledge to North Carolina," Biggins wrote. "Onyeagoro signed with the Mustangs back in December during the Early Signing Period...According to Onyeagoro's trainer Traison Lewis, the talented edge rusher actually committed a few days ago."
Onyeagoro is ranked as a four-star EDGE in the Class of 2025, and he played high school football at King Drew Medical Magnet in Los Angeles. In his final high school campaign, he registered 107 tackles and 20 sacks, so he is an exciting player that could benefit North Carolina from the start.
Onyeagoro also had offers from programs including UCLA, Florida State and Georgia before committing to SMU in July. He signed with the Mustangs in December, but suddenly he has had a change of heart and will now join the Tar Heels. He also had an offer from Washington, and with some of the staff now in Chapel Hill, that also made an impact on Onyeagoro.
After the commitment, Onyeagoro posted on X with three words: "Time to work."
Not only does SMU lose a big recruit, but he ends up staying in the ACC and joins the up-and-coming North Carolina program.
