The Washington Capitals answered the bell in Game 2 with a tidy 3-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Caps were still under a barrage of shot attempts from the Canes but they did a good job protecting the good areas of the ice, and goaltender Logan Thompson put together another terrific effort with 27 saves on 28 shots.
The numbers from the first two games of the series paint a picture of Carolina tilting the ice and Washington just trying to survive, but there’s more to the story.
Nonetheless, the NHL bookmakers are comfortable installing the Canes as a -210 favorite to win Game 3.

Capitals vs. Hurricanes Game 3 betting preview
The Hurricanes are a unique team to play against and handicap. They play a unique system that relies on chaos and pressure to overwhelm their opponents.
Playing against Carolina requires composure, patience and execution. You need to weather the storm, and when you get your opportunities you have to take them.

The Capitals, more than most teams, are set up to succeed against the all-action Canes.
Not only is Washington a well-coached team with plenty of old hands who have played against Carolina countless times in their career, but they also have a couple of slick, puck-moving defensemen who can relieve pressure and start a counter with one pass.
It also doesn’t hurt that Washington’s goaltender, Thompson, is in tip-top form.
Capitals vs. Hurricanes Game 3 pick
It’s hard not to get caught up in the narratives of a series during the Stanley Cup playoffs, and right now the consensus for this best-of-seven is that it’s only a matter of time before Carolina races away from Washington.
The Canes have registered nearly 100 more shot attempts than the Caps through two games, which has made this seem like a one-sided matchup to both the eye test and in the box score.

That said, the aggregate score in this series (removing the empty-netters) is 3-3.
Washington seems more than comfortable with the idea of playing rope-a-dope and, more importantly, the Capitals are capable of pulling it off.
