Bernardo Silva reveals his role as Man City captain

6 hours ago 2

Earlier this month, Bernardo Silva was named Manchester City's new captain.

Even though he usually lets players and staff vote for the appointment of the team's captain, Man City head coach Pep Guardiola made the decision himself this time and later revealed that he did not prefer how things went down with the team's leadership last season, as per ESPN.

Guardiola awarded the captain's armband to Silva and picked Ruben Dias, Rodri, and Erling Haaland as vice-captains.

After being named Man City's captain, Silva said that it is 'one of the biggest honours' of his career. The Portuguese star also spoke about his plans to lead the squad.

What did Man City's new captain Bernardo Silva say?

Silva, who arrived at the Etihad Stadium from Monaco in 2017, stated (comments via NDTV Sports) that he would 'try to pass' his experiences over the years to the younger players in the squad.

"It's probably one of the biggest honours of my career. I'm going to start my ninth season at the club. We went through a lot of fantastic moments and some disappointments as well. All that experience, I will try to pass it to the younger guys," he said.

"It's about each one of us being our own leader and helping the guy next to us in the dressing room. The same way that we helped the other guys, I'm counting on Ruben (Dias), on Rodri, on Erling (Haaland), on all the guys to help me. Because I will need that help to help the team achieve a lot of things and hopefully win titles," added the 30-year-old.

Silva-led Man City are now headed to face Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal in the Round of 16 of the Club World Cup on June 30 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida.
