The artifacts are no longer coming to life around him, but Ben Stiller could not go a single night without creating something that belongs in a museum.
Stiller has directed several major motion pictures, including Zoolander and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. But when it came to Game 1 of the NBA Finals, Stiller jumped into director mode once again from his courtside seats.
Using the slow-motion video feature on his phone, Stiller recorded several cinematic sequences. These include a step-back jumper from Jalen Brunson and a turnover by the Spurs.
Here's a closer look at Stiller's courtside scenes.

Ben Stiller's NBA Finals videos
In the wee hours of the morning (2:34 a.m. local time), Stiller posted the last of these slow-motion videos he took during the Knicks' 10-point win in Game 1. Stiller has taken these videos from various games in the past, with Game 1 having three separate videos posted by him.

Part 2 of the sequence saw Jalen Brunson with the ball on the right wing, guarded by Devin Vassell. Brunson drove past the arc, stepped back at the elbow and pump faked a shot to get Vassell off balance before draining a midrange jumper.

Most of the reactions were positive, credited a dedicated Knicks fan and professional filmmaker for his commitment to both crafts. Stiller went as far as filming on his walk in and out of the Frost Bank Center and grabbing clips of players.
I know he's literally a professional filmmaker, but the videos Ben Stiller takes during these Knicks games is some of the most cinematic sports footage you'll ever see. https://t.co/1rJ9MvR3DC
— y - Ben Mathewson (@Ben_Mathewson) June 4, 2026Stiller did see occasional criticism for this as well, with some fans questioning why he would watch through his phone. After all, he is paying an exceptional amount of money for an amazing seat to watch the action.
While these videos are sick, is he shooting them himself? Because my guy - the game is right there, stop watching it thru your phone https://t.co/4FloLQZSXN
