Bears reveal worrying 'day-to-day' injury update on Rome Odunze ahead of Week 1

The Chicago Bears are starting their first week of practice ahead of the first game of the 2026 NFL season. After an NFC North title in 2025, the Bears are eyeing a return trip to the playoffs.

However, the Bears are already dealing with a bit of a concerning issue for one of their key players. Rome Odunze, who was banged up often last season, is coming into the 2026 season with an injury.

According to Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic, Ben Johnson told reporters that Odunze is "day-to-day" with an injury that is different from the foot issue he had a year ago and is putting his Week 1 status in jeopardy.

"Ben Johnson says Bears WR Rome Odunze is day-to-day," Fishbain reports. "He won't practice today. The injury is different than the foot he dealt with last season."

On Tuesday, just a few days before their Sunday matchup against the Carolina Panthers to begin the 2026 NFL season, Johnson revealed some worrying news on Odunze.

With DJ Moore now gone, Odunze is going to be instrumental to the Bears' 2026 season plans. If he's hurt, the Bears might be in some trouble.

This injury issue for Odunze has him day-to-day just five days before the start of the 2026 season. He left practice a week ago with a right leg injury, and this update from Johnson is a bit worrying.

After putting up 661 yards and six touchdowns on 44 receptions in 2025 with Caleb Williams and Johnson while dealing with injury issues for much of the season, as he played just 12 games, he's once again dealing with an injury.

Odunze hasn't been ruled out for Week 1, and he might not miss any time this season. But on Tuesday, it's hard not to worry a bit about his Week 1 status with this day-to-day update from Johnson.
