Bears’ RB solution remains a free agent just waiting to be signed as D’Andre Swift replacement

Following the NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears could still use running back help.

There may be a free agent that can still make the difference.

The Sporting News' senior NFL writer Vinnie Iyer made his pitch on Thursday for what the Bears should do.

Iyer writes that the Bears need to go after Nick Chubb.

"The Bears went from wanting Ashton Jeanty and Omarion Hampton badly to not even considering this position until late in the draft despite having D'Andre Swift as the best option for Ben Johnson's new rushing attack," Iyer said. "At this point, they need to take a shot on Nick Chubb."

Chubb is coming off the worst season of his NFL career.

In 2024, Chubb averaged 3.3 yards per carry. That's after a serious knee injury ended his 2023 season in Week 2.

Before that, he was a consistent stalwart in Cleveland.

Chicago needs an improved running game to make new coach Ben Johnson's offense work and to help second-year QB Caleb Williams become the best version of himself.

Chubb certainly isn't at his peak, but potentially another year away from his bad knee injury will help him be a little more explosive.

He showed in his Browns 2024 season that he can still find the end zone from close range, too.

It's up to Chicago to pull the trigger on a move that increases its chances of competing in 2025.
