"I did a lot of things, but for me it was more mental," Garcia said. "Everything was mental. It took a toll on my mentality because I know I didn't take steroids or anything like that. It was tough for me to overcome that, but throughout the year I got over it, refocused myself, and got blessed with this opportunity. I felt that this is my chance to come back and show everybody I can really fight."
Romero (16-2) is a former WBA super lightweight champion, beating Ismael Barroso following a controversial stoppage. "Rolly" is 2-2 in his last four fights and has 13 wins via knockout. Confident, the usually colorful Romero is focused on just beating Garcia.
"If I was clout chasing, he would've had clout. It's just sparring, we'll see a real fight in the ring on May 2. We're going to make it a big fight—one of the biggest fights in U.S. history," Romero said.
