Bears QB Caleb Williams adds fuel to the fire of storied rivalry with Green Bay Packers

You certainly don’t need me to tell you that there is no love lost between the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears. These NFC North foes are not only two of the most storied franchises in NFL history. They also make up the NFL’s oldest and most storied rivalry, but over the last few decades, it’s been unusually one-sided.

Since the 1990 NFL season began, Green Bay is 51-20 versus Chicago and have won 26 of the last 31 meetings since the start of the 2010 season. But right now, it’s the Bears who boast the latest win… a last second stunner over the Packers at Lambeau Field in the final week of the 2024 NFL season.

Bears second-year quarterback Caleb Williams is still riding high following that victory, and as has been the case since he was drafted by Chicago with the 1st overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, he seems hell-bent on making this rivalry as contentious as he can.

During an appearance at Fanatics Fest in New York City, Williams was asked a question about which opposing NFL fanbase he’s had the biggest issue with, and the second-year quarterback quickly offered an answer.

“Probably Green Bay. They suck,” Williams said, per Christopher Kuhagen of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Williams also offered a reminder of his career record against the Packers away from Soldier Field.

“1-0 at Lambeau,” Williams said with a smile.

Williams will have the chance to improve his record at Lambeau Field to 2-0 when Chicago visits Green Bay in Week 14. And if he does, both Williams and new Bears head coach Ben Johnson will likely have plenty to say about it. Shortly after being hired by the Bears back in January, the former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator had this to say about the Packers and their head coach Matt LaFleur:

“To be quite frank with you, I kind of enjoyed beating Matt LaFleur twice a year.”

Yes sir, those are definitely fighting words.
