Bears made terrible trade offer to try and solve RB problems

The Chicago Bears reportedly wanted a running back in the second round of last month's NFL Draft.

Only problem? They didn't try that hard with their apparent trade offer.

The Bears held the No. 39 overall pick, and they wanted to swap with New England at No. 38. A video of draft weekend put out by the Patriots revealed a bit about the negotiations.

Basically, the Bears offered No. 39 and a seventh-round pick to move up one spot to No. 38.

Maybe if the Pats hadn't had a target in mind, they would've done it. But the Patriots likely had a sense that they were getting leapfrogged for a running back pick.

Given that New England also wanted an RB in that spot, it was a no go.

The Patriots picked Ohio State's TreVeyon Henderson, directly preventing the Bears from getting the explosive dual threat out of the backfield.

Chicago has been linked to all sorts of RB upgrades this offseason after D'Andre Swift averaged only 3.7 yards per carry in 2024.

But if the Bears really wanted any of these guys, wouldn't they have made sure to get some kind of deal across the line?

Right now, they've got nothing to show for their apparent pursuits, and it means their running backs next to second-year QB Caleb Williams may simply not be good enough.
