Bears lose Ben Johnson's right-hand man to Jesse Minter's Ravens

Jesse Minter, the new head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, is hiring Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle to run his offense, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

"The Baltimore Ravens are hiring Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle as their offensive coordinator. Doyle can leave because, in Baltimore, he will have play-calling responsibility. But new Ravens HC Jesse Minter now has someone to run Baltimore’s offense."

While the move is lateral, Doyle will see an increased role, as Chicago head coach Ben Johnson calls the offensive plays for the Bears.

Ravens hire Bears OC Declan Doyle for the same position

Doyle, the youngest offensive coordinator in the league, is clearly a rising star in the NFL.

He was hired out of college by Sean Payton's New Orleans Saints, showing just how talented he is as a coach. He spent four years with the Saints, even after Payton retired, retaining the same role under Dennis Allen.

When Payton came out of retirement to coach the Denver Broncos in 2023, he brought Doyle to Denver to coach tight ends.

Johnson was hired to be the Bears' head coach in January 2025, and arguably the best offensive mind in football wanted Doyle as his OC.

"It's going to be critical for me to find somebody that can organize and structure and set the table, particularly early in the week," Johnson said before hiring Doyle.

"The offensive coordinator position is going to have to be somebody that not only I trust but will be extremely detail oriented, organized and structured to set the table and also be willing to work late nights."

Clearly, that's what Doyle did for Chicago throughout the 2025 season, helping Johnson run a Bears offense that finished seventh-best in the league in Sumer Sports' EPA/play statistic.

Now, Doyle will have the opportunity to be the "head coach" of the offense for Lamar Jackson and the Ravens, while Minter mans the defense.
