The Chicago Bears are sitting pretty with a 1-0 record after their first game of the season, where they totally routed the Carolina Panthers, 59-37. Now, the team faces a familiar NFC North foe: the Minnesota Vikings.
Quarterback Caleb Williams is a big part of the Bears' rebuild. He's been working with new head coach Ben Johnson, of course, and now, this duo is really making magic together. During the team's season opener, Williams had 334 total yards and four touchdowns.
Now, Week 2 in the NFL is officially here, and Williams and the Bears are getting ready.
Caleb Williams Faces a Tough Challenge Against the Vikings
On Friday, ESPN released a feature about the upcoming games. In it, they note that Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores is a challenge for Williams and the Bears.
Flores "posted an 83% blitz rate in the first half against the Packers and -- even after throttling down in the second half -- finished with a 71.7% rate that nearly tripled the NFL average in Week 1," Kevin Seifert of ESPN notes. "Flores has always favored the blitz, but would he dare repeat that aggression level against the Bears? Flores considers the opening weeks of a season to be about improvement and experimentation."
Williams even gave Flores the nickname "King of the Cover 0 blitz" as a rookie.
"You try to have answers for everything," Johnson said of Flores, according to ESPN. "He's been in this division three years now, and yeah, I mean you'd like to think he's put everything he could possibly do on tape until you play him next and you realize he hasn't yet. ... There always is with him and that's what makes him such a good coordinator."
So, it's not going to be a cakewalk against the Vikings, even with them being down their starting quarterback. But the Bears know that, and they're ready.
