Bears at risk of losing coach under Ben Johnson to Eagles for same role

The Chicago Bears made it to the NFC Divisional round, but lost to the Los Angeles Rams. While not the ideal end to the year, the heroics of Caleb Williams and the transformational nature of Ben Johnson were big wins this season.

After 2025, the bears are in a much better spot than they were a year ago. Johnson might be the coach of the year, and his staff is, predictably, at risk of being poached this offseason after how impressive the offense was in 2025.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Bears are now at risk of losing one of Johnon's offensive coaches to the Philadelphia Eagles. This situation is partially Johnson's fault, but it's a good problem to have.

Ben Johnson might lose OC to Eagles for same job

"Chicago offensive coordinator Declan Doyle is a name to watch," Fowler reports. "The Bears did not block Philly's request to interview Doyle, which means he's free to make the lateral move."

Declan Doyle is the Bears' offensive coordinator and is interviewing for the Eagles' offensive coordinator opening.

Typically, teams won't allow their own coaches to interview for lateral jobs. But Johnson wants to let his coaches explore new options and is letting Doyle take this interview.

There's no guarantee that he lands the job, but with how great the Bears performed in 2025, and the Eagles looking for an impressive offensive mind to lead their offense after the Kevin Patullo disaster, Doyle might be the highest-upside play.

Doyle isn't calling plays in Chicago, but in Philadelphia, he would get to lead the Eagles offense, which just a year ago, made it to the Super Bowl and won.

Losing Doyle would sting, but it would be a great sign for the Bears that teams are trying to poach their offensive staff. If fans wanted proof that Johnson is viewed highly around the league, this interview situation with Doyle and the Eagles couldn't be better proof.
