Bam Adebayo only scored 83 points.
So yet again, Wilt Chamberlain's 100-point game is safe. But we say that tongue in cheek. Because the Miami Heat star just scored the second-most points in a game in NBA history on Tuesday night, and he did it while breaking a Wilt record in the process.
You see, Adebayo did it with a shooting line that looked like this:
- 20-43 FG
- 7-22 3FG
- 36-43 FT
He absolutely obliterated the previous record for free throws made in a game. That was held by Chamberlain, and Adrian Dantley, with 28 made foul shots in a contest.
To expand the record from 28 to 36 is a Ruth-ian eruption.
MORE: The total unexpectedness and magic of Bam's 83-point game
The 43 free throw attempts are also a record. Dwight Howard had previously attempted 39 foul shots in a single game, and actually done it twice.
Yeah, this game made pretty much no sense. Even with it coming against the lowly Wizards, Adebayo stunned the entire basketball world.
He passed Kobe Bryant's 81-point game, which had stood in second place all-time for about two decades.
Adebayo's previous career high was 41 points. He more than doubled it on this night.
The Heat were blowing out the Wizards, but they left Bam in and did everything they could to get him more points.
It'll go down in history for so many reasons, including how unexpected it was.
But those free throw marks? They might be tough to ever break. Bam put them into a whole new stratosphere.
