The Baltimore Ravens finished the 2024 season with the No. 1 overall offense in the NFL.
Despite leading the league in total offense averaging almost 429 yards per game, Lamar Jackson and the Ravens haven’t been able to make it to a Super Bowl since he took over as the team’s QB in 2018.
Last season felt like the year the Ravens would get over the hump.
The two headed monster of Jackson and Derrick Henry forced opposing defenses to account for both talented ball-carriers in the running game, naturally opening up big holes in the passing game.
The result? Jackson had his best season in the NFL as a passer and it wasn’t close. The Ravens QB threw for 4,172 yards, four touchdowns and just four interceptions in a performance that was good enough to earn him NFL Offensive MVP honors for the second time in his career.
The addition last offseason of Henry can’t be overstated. It’s easy why the team decided to give him a contract extension worth $30 million earlier this week to keep him in Baltimore through 2027.
The success on the ground gave OC Todd Monken plenty of opportunities to open up the passing game and for the first time in his career, it felt like Jackson had a solid supporting cast of receivers.
Zay Flowers emerged as a true No. 1 WR and earned his first trip to the Pro Bowl, while Rashod Bateman stepped up for the first time in his career with 756 yards and nine touchdowns.
The pass-catching TE duo of Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely came up huge in big moments.
Baltimore signed DeAndre Hopkins this offseason which gives them a big red zone target at the receiver position.
Still, the Ravens could always use another veteran receiver on offense and heading into 2025 where they return nearly every player from last year, one prediction has them trading with the Texans for a proven WR.
Anthony Palacios of Last Word on Sports believes Baltimore might trade for Houston Texans veteran wideout Christian Kirk:
“The Ravens are going to need a wide receiver anyway if DeAndre Hopkins decides to retire after this season. Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman are still expected to be the dynamic duo unless Bateman continues to be inconsistent. Either way, they need a long-term WR3, and Kirk could help in a reduced role for a couple of years before they draft one playmaker as a replacement.”
