“Bachelorette” alum Joe Amabile revealed that doctors found what appears to be “an early-stage brain tumor” after he underwent an MRI scan.
“There was a blueberry-size lesion in my brain that looks to be a glioma, which is a tumor,” the TV personality shared via Instagram on Monday.
Looking downcast, Amabile revealed the next step is brain surgery — specifically a craniotomy — in two weeks to “get it removed and get it tested, and then we’re gonna go from there.”
Amabile, 40, described the past couple of weeks as “wild,” admitting he “definitely wasn’t expecting this” and “never” thought he’d be dealing with a cancer scare.
“They say it’s really early stages,” he added. “I hope they are able to get it all and I’m fine, but I will keep you updated.”
In the caption, the Bachelor Nation alum told fans he’s “doing [his] best to stay positive during this time and [is] lucky to have a lot of support from family and friends.”
“I’ve gone back and forth about what I wanted to share on social media but ultimately this is now part of my life now, so might as well. Onto a new journey,” he concluded.

Amabile received a ton of support in the comment section from Bachelor Nation, including from his wife, Serena Pitt, who wrote, “You’re so strong and we’re going to get through this together ❤️ I love you.”
“Love you bro,” Zac Clark chimed in. “You are a great friend to me and many others. You are going to get through this and then help a lot of people. Keep going.”
“Sending all the love and support brother ❤️ can’t wait to play a round of golf when you’re all better,” Joey Graziadei commented, while Wells Adams wrote, “Love you brother. You got this and we’ve got you! 🙏🏼❤️.”
Amabile rose to fame on “The Bachelorette” Season 14 in 2018, where he vied for the affection of Becca Kufrin, that season’s lead.
Despite being eliminated during the first night, he earned the nickname “Grocery Store Joe” and became a fan-favorite contestant. That popularity led to him competing on “Dancing With the Stars” Season 27 later that year alongside Jenna Johnson, ultimately coming in fifth place.
Amabile also appeared on “Bachelor in Paradise” Season 5 in 2018 and Season 7 in 2021 — the latter of which being where he met Pett.
The couple, who began 2026 by announcing they were stepping down as the co-hosts of the “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast, married in 2022.
