Avs' Brock Nelson joins exclusive NHL scoring club in win vs. Mammoth

It was like nothing happened after the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics break for the Colorado Avalanche. Coach Jared Bednar kept the rotations tight against the Utah Mammoth to give everyone on the Avs a chance to score. Brock Nelson took that opportunity and led them to a great 4-2 win over the Utah Mammoth.

Colorado forward heats up enroute to NHL history

Nelson was running the Avs offense smoothly after the Olympics. He had four shots on goal and found the back of the net once to help Coach Bednar's squad heat up against the Mammoth. This marked Nelson's 30th goal in the 2025-26 season which means that he has done it four times in his career.

This makes him join a very exclusive list of scorers in league history who have notched multiple 30+ goal seasons. The insane roster of talent is led by Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews who has achieved this scoring mark nine times in their career. Kyle Connor of the Winnipeg Jets have seven career 30+ seasons while guys like Dylan Larkin, Patrick Kane, Jake Guentzel, and Alex DeBrincat did it five times.

Coach Bednar credited how much of an effort the Avs had  despite the absence of Nathan MacKinnon. He had a lot of respect for all the guys who still played despite immediately having come off the Winter Olympics, via Matt Komma of NHL.com.

"I thought it was all right. I think the guys played hard. They were committed to the way we want to play. There were some sloppy plays on both sides that led to some real good scoring chances for and against…Overall, I've got to say no passengers, so I have to be pretty happy with it," the Avs head coach added.

The Avs are way above most NHL squads this season with their 38 wins and 85 points. This could be a year when they hoist the Stanley Cup with not much problems because of how they are able to notch wins by committee and not relying too much on a star.
