The Atlanta Braves have made another wave of roster moves. Over the weekend/Monday, the Braves split their four-game series with the New York Mets. On Tuesday, Atlanta will open up a new series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, and there was a handful of roster transactions announced before the series begins.
One of those recent roster moves included releasing MLB pitcher Daysbel Hernandez.
Braves option Owen Murphy, Release Daysbel Hernandez
RHP prospect Owen Murphy made his MLB debut on Monday evening, but on Tuesday, he was sent back down to the minors.
Here is the official roster announcement via X.com, which also includes the release of Daysbel Hernandez:
"The #Braves today selected LHP Connor Thomas to the major league roster and optioned RHP Owen Murphy to Triple-A Gwinnett. To make room on the 40-man roster, the club released RHP Daysbel Hernández. Atlanta also recalled RHP James Karinchak and placed RHP Tyler Kinley on the paternity list."
So, to break that down, Tyler Kinley will likely be away from the team for a day or two. James Karinchak is back with the big league club, Daysbel Hernandez has been released from the organization, and Connor Thomas is also heading to the Majors.
As for Daysbel Hernandez, he's pitched 58.2 total innings with the Braves over the past three MLB seasons. His ERA across those three seasons is 3.38.
In 2025, Hernandez pitched 37 innings with Atlanta and posted an ERA of 3.41. However, an injury shut him down for a large part of that campaign, and Daysbel has not pitched in MLB this season, which led to the release, as he's just been taking up a roster spot for other players who can actually contribute to the organization.
