The whole NBA knew that the Los Angeles Lakers needed a backup center.
Now, they've signed one with serious championship experience from his days with the Golden State Warriors.
The Lakers have signed Kevon Looney to a one-year, $3.9 million contract, according to ESPN's Shams Charania on Tuesday afternoon.
"The Lakers acquire one of the top available backup centers, and Looney, a three-time NBA champion, provides experience and pick-and-roll play for Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves after all of those years running screens for Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala in the Bay Area," Charania wrote on X.

The 6-foot-9 Looney turned 30 in February and has played in parts of 11 NBA seasons.
His first 10 years were in Golden State before he joined the New Orleans Pelicans for 2025-26.
Looney was limited to just 21 games last season, and he averaged 2.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.
He's never been a high-volume offensive player, but Looney is a good rebounder and a really good offensive connector as a screener and handoff guy.

Playing with Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves won't be the same as playing with Stephen Curry, but the level of expectation will be somewhat similar.
The Lakers recently traded Deandre Ayton to the Wizards after acquiring Walker Kessler, and so now Looney will back up Kessler.
Of the available options, Looney was a solid one to end up with for the Lakers.
