The Houston Astros have made a lot of moves this offseason, with trades, free agent signings, and roster reshuffling occurring to get back to the postseason in 2026.
One of the main storylines of the offseason has been the trade market surrounding their infielder surplus. The logjam needs to be cleared, and to do so, trading one of Christian Walker or Isaac Paredes is the best way to move forward.
But, as Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports, AStros general manager Dana Brown revealed a significant trade update on the pair of infielders. With Spring Training right around the corner, it's looking like trade talks are slowing down.
Astros GM reveals big trade update ahead of Spring Training
"Astros GM Dana Brown said trade talks have slowed, but he did not rule out the possibility of a deal coming together at some point in spring training," Rome reports.
This update from Brown is a big one, in that the Astros trade talks surrounding their infielders, and overall roster aren't nearly as active as they once were.
Houston has been trying to trade one of their infielders all offseason, and Paredes, the All-Star third baseman with two years of control left, is the odd man out at the moment.
Ideally, the Astros would trade Walker. But, a $40 million contract over the next two years makes the value of Walker in a trade almost non-existent, with his struggles recently.

There isn't a strong market for Walker, which makes Paredes the clear top trade asset. But, with the Boston Red Sox acquiring Caleb Durbin from the Milwaukee Brewers, the best landing spot for Paredes is off the board.
In a Paredes trade, the Astros best options might be the Pittsburgh Pirates. But that isn't a lock either, as they might be content with their team at the moment.
The Astros finding a trade partner for Paredes is going to be difficult, and as Brown notes, the trade market has slowed down.
It's a tough situation for the Astros, and one that hasn't developed in their favor this offseason. The Astros trade market is slowing down, but as Brown mentioned, fans shouldn't rule out a trade just yet.
