There's no clear indication of how the Toronto Blue Jays will approach this year's trade deadline.
Toronto has fallen far behind in the AL East standings but is just 2.5 games behind the Texas Rangers for the third and final Wild Card spot.
That's why it may be difficult for the Houston Astros and general manager Dana Brown to approach the Jays with interest in one of their outfielders.
ESPN's Jeff Passan labeled Daulton Varsho as a "dream" trade target for the Astros at this year's deadline.
Houston needs another outfielder, specifically one that hits from the left-handed side of the batter's box.
"Varsho's inclusion here is more a reflection of the current standings than any desire from Toronto to offload players. One bonanza week and the Blue Jays could be right back in the postseason mix," Passan wrote.
"As it stands, however, they are faced with a very difficult choice if things don't change: One season after nearly winning the World Series, is their mediocre first half going to prompt them to move their free agents-to-be?" Passan added.

Varsho is one of Toronto's free agents-to-be.
He continues to play stellar defense in center field and is hitting .246/.314/.399 with seven home runs and a 93 OPS+ through 80 games.
It may cost the Astros a lower-level prospect or two to acquire Varsho, but a move like that will be worth it if the Gold Glover can help propel them into the postseason.
