The Tampa Bay Rays are atop the AL East as the All-Star break approaches, and it's clear this club is likely to be trade deadline buyers this summer.
With the August 3 trade deadline less than a month away, what could the Rays target? Starting pitching and bullpen help are always needs worth considering, but the Rays really could use some more offense, ideally, from the middle infield.
That's why ESPN's Jeff Passan named .324 hitting second baseman from the San Francisco Giants, Luis Arraez, as the Rays' "best match" at the 2026 MLB trade deadline.
Rays 'best' trade deadline fit is Luis Arraez
"Best match: Luis Arraez, 2B, San Francisco Giants," Passan writes. "... Upgrading the offense, then, is a priority for Tampa Bay, and to do so with someone like Arraez checks just about every box."
Arraez, the Giants $12 million free-agent signing, has been incredible for San Francisco this season. While his offense is elite, his surprisingly good defense is another reason why adding the Giants' infielder would make sense for the Rays.
But the reason why they'd trade for Arraez is simple: his offensive ability. This season, he has a .324 batting average with 112 hits, 20 doubles, seven triples, four homers, and 34 RBIs to go with seven stolen bases, 21 walks, and 15 strikeouts.

His .816 OPS and 130 OPS+ are some of the best marks of his big league career, and with just a 3.9% strikeout rate and a .360 on-base percentage, there's a lot to like about his game.
Adding Arraez to the Rays offense, putting him in the leadoff spot to get on base ahead of Junior Caminero, Yandy Diaz, and Jonathan Aranda, would be exactly what this Rays offense needs.
The Giants $12 million infielder would make a lot of sense for Tampa Bay, and Passan called him their "best match" at the trade deadline. He's also very likely to be dealt, so the Rays' top trade target should also be readily available this summer.
