One of the higher-profile signings of the summer transfer window thus far has been that of Anthony Gordon, who moved on from Newcastle United to Barcelona for a fee of € 70 million. This signing, along with the constantly rumored return of fellow Englishman Marcus Rashford to Camp Nou, has started to fill out the Catalan side’s attacking department, which means that there could be some departing players, either on loan or by transfer, in the coming months.
Barcelona's next departure?
There has been one name that has recently been touted to depart the La Liga side, Rooney Bardghji, who is a player they’re fine with letting exit for good, despite his ambitions to stay at the club, as reported by TEAMtalk’s James Marshment.
“Sources have told TEAMtalk that Barcelona are open to a permanent sale despite Bardghji‘s preference being a loan move that would allow him to gain regular first-team football before potentially returning to the Catalan giants,” stated Marshment.
All of the transfer chatter has come after the Swede’s first season in La Liga, one in which he would net six goal involvements, with a majority of them coming from his four assists, across his 29 appearances. While not always finding himself on the score sheet, Bardgjhi was given the tall task of filling in for Lamine Yamal down the stretch, with the Spaniard missing time due to a hamstring injury.
It would be these performances that made several clubs in the English top flight interested in acquiring his signature during the summer window. According to Marshment, the likes of Aston Villa, Everton, Leeds United, Sunderland, Brighton, and Brentford are among those interested in bringing the Swede to the Premier League.
“In addition to Leeds, Aston Villa, Sunderland, Brighton, Brentford and Everton have all made checks on the player’s situation and are monitoring developments closely as Barcelona determine the next step for the winger,” explained Marshment.
Given that Bardghji was left out by ex-Premier League mainstay Graham Potter for Sweden’s national team at the upcoming FIFA World Cup, the next stage of his career could be on the front of his mind for the next few weeks.
