The potential No. 1 pick in the 2027 NFL Draft begins his college season on Saturday.

Arch Manning and the Texas welcome Texas State to Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium this afternoon, kicking off the Longhorns' 2026 campaign. The junior QB is the face of a program looking to bounce back after missing the College Football Playoff following a 12-3 season in 2025.

The hype around Manning, the nephew of NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning, is massive. He enters this season viewed as the top QB prospect in the 2027 NFL Draft class, thanks to his dual-threat ability on the field. The Longhorns signal caller threw for 3,163 yards, 26 touchdowns and completed 61.4% of his passes in his first full season as the starting QB. He also added 399  yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.

Texas State offers Manning and Co. a fairly easy test on paper to kick off the season. The Bobcats went 7-6 last year, including 3-5 in the Sun Belt Conference. The Longhorns enter this season at No. 5 in the preseason rankings and are a heavy favorite against their Week 1 rival.

A splendid opening performance to start the year will only amplify those ready to crown Manning as the next-best talent on his way to the NFL gridiron.
