Anthony Rizzo nearly catches Cubs rookie's first career home run

On Saturday, the Chicago Cubs honored Anthony Rizzo. The slugger had a great 14-year career split between the San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, and New York Yankees, where he was a three-time All-Star, four-time Gold Glove Award winner, Silver Slugger Award winner, Roberto Clemente Award winner, and a World Series champion.

The club honored him with a tribute video ahead of the game, and he also threw out the first pitch. With his ties to cancer, Rizzo wore a Cubs jersey that was signed by cancer patients he had visited throughout the years.

After delivering the first pitch, Rizzo decided to watch the game surrounded by fans in the outfield bleachers. He picked a great seat to sit in, as he was nearly a part of Cubs' history yet again.

Anthony Rizzo nearly catches the Cubs rookie's first career home run

When watching a game in the outfield bleachers, you must always be aware that a ball could come your way, and that is what happened to Anthony Rizzo. Cubs' rookie Moises Ballesteros came up to the plate and caught every stitching of the ball, sending it straight towards Rizzo for his first career home run.

Unfortunately, Rizzo did not bring his glove and tried to barehand the catch. It would hit off his hand and bounce toward another fan sitting close by, who was ecstatic to get the ball. You can watch the near catch here, thanks to MLB's X account.

This demonstrates that bringing your glove to the game is never a bad idea. Even three-time MLB All-Stars have trouble making the barehand play in the stands.
