Shaquille O'Neal is giving his love to the newly engaged couple, Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift. While O'Neal has been cool with Kelce over the years, he shared he didn't get a heads-up.
"I heard about it on the net, like everybody else, social media. I saw it, but a lot of times you can't really believe it, so I reached out to a few people, and they said, 'Yeah, it's true,' so it's awesome. Can't wait," the NBA legend told PEOPLE.
"I'm happy for him. I know Travis personally," O'Neal says. As for Swift, he shared that he only met her once when they were in close proximity during the 2024 Super Bowl in Las Vegas.
"Listen, I'm all for it. May they last forever," he says of the Kansas City Chiefs star and Grammy-winning singer.
Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift announce their engagement
Kelce and Swift were dating for two years prior to the three-time Super Bowl-winning champion getting down on one knee. They announced their engagement on Aug. 26 in a fairytale-esque garden.
"Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married," the caption read.
While the world found out late last month, according to Ed Kelce, Travis' father, the engagement was about two weeks before then.
"Travis actually did the proposal, oh, maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago," Ed Kelce told News5 Cleveland. "He was going to put it off till this week. I think she was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to put her off till this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event. And I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event ... when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you."
"He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, 'let's go out and have a glass of wine,' ... they got out there, and that's when he asked her, and it was beautiful," Ed continued. "They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. So, to see them together is great."
Travis thanked fans for their kind words following the news on his New Heights podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother, Jason Kelce.
"Thank you guys for the congratulations," Travis said. "I appreciate everybody who has reached out and sent something, all the posts and excitement, and it has been really fun telling everybody who I'm going to be spending the rest of my life with."
"It has been really fun. It has been awesome," he concluded.
