The New York Knicks' roster may be their best in the last 20 years.
With Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns as the leading scorers, and Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby at the forward positions, the Knicks have plenty of talent.
Recent rumors suggest that the Dallas Mavericks will trade center Anthony Davis in the near future, though minority owner Mark Cuban told The Athletic's Joe Vardon, "we won't".
One team reportedly interested in Davis is the Knicks. On Saturday, SNY's Ian Begley stated he thinks the Knicks would at least "check in" on the possibility of trade discussions.
"You may scoff at the idea, but the Knicks want to win a title this season. If Dallas is offering Davis at a below-market cost, I’m sure the Knicks will at least give the move some thought," Begley added. "But this, again, is stating the obvious. The Mavs will get calls from nearly all NBA teams if/when they make Davis available."
Is Davis a fit with the Knicks?
Davis could form a star-studded big man duo with Karl-Anthony Towns, but the former is very injury-prone.
Regardless, to pull off a trade for Davis, the Knicks would have to offload players from their roster rather than draft capital. They own a 2026 first-round draft pick but will not select in the first round in 2027, unless they acquire a pick in a trade.
Davis could help shore up the defense, an area Towns struggles with. Both are above-average rebounders, but spacing could be a problem on offense. The two veterans feature a similar offensive profile, with Towns being the better three-point shooter.
Acquiring Davis would be a risky move given his injury history. The Mavericks' asking price would also be very high.
