Righty reliever Jordan Romano is now a member of the Angels after a down year in Philadelphia.
The two-time All-Star closer agreed to a one-year contract with the Angels, a team that ESPN’s Jeff Passan described as “loading up on reclamation projects” in hopes of them returning to All-Star form.
The deal is worth a reported $2 million.
The Angels also signed lefty Drew Pomeranz to a one-year deal, the team announced. Multiple reports indicated the contract is for $4 million.
Romano would certainly fit the label of a possible reclamation project after having an ugly 2025 season with the Phillies, as he posted an 8.23 ERA in 49 games a year after he was limited due to injury with the Blue Jays.

During his 2024 season in Toronto, Romano had a 6.59 ERA in 13 ⅔ innings as he dealt with right elbow inflammation for most of the year.
Romano, 32, was viewed — at one time — as one of baseball’s most dependable closers.
From 2021-23, the Ontario native had an impressive 2.37 ERA and recorded 95 saves through 186 innings.
He was named an All-Star in 2022 and ’23.
Romano is the second ex-Blue Jay that the Angels have added to their roster.

Pomeranz comes to the Angels by way of the Cubs, with whom he pitched last season.
He recorded a 2.17 ERA and 1.07 WHIP, striking out 57 and walking 15 in 57 appearances.
The Angels are coming off another losing season, extending their playoff drought to 11 years.
Since Los Angeles went to the ALCS in 2009, they have made the postseason just once (2014).
