After The View hosted New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani on the show last week, his opponent, former governor Andrew Cuomo, paid a visit to speak on his campaign and his alleged relationship with President Trump.
Cuomo claimed that he was “the last person” Trump would want leading New York City after they “fought on a daily basis” during the pandemic when they were both in office.
“I’m the last person President Trump wants as mayor,” Cuomo said during Monday’s (Oct. 6) broadcast. “New Yorkers watched the movie every day. During Covid, I was the governor, he was the president we fought on a daily basis.”
Cuomo continued, claiming, “[Trump] came with all his threats, all his power and might, threatened to put me in jail, had me investigated twice by the Department of Justice, threatened to cut off federal funds.”
Joy Behar then asked Cuomo if he felt that President Trump secretly wanted Mamdani to win the mayoral race.
“Mamdani is a gift for him! A gift,” Cuomo responded.

Both Sara Haines and Alyssa Farah Griffin agreed with Cuomo.
“Ahead of the midterms, he wants Mamdani to win, 100%,” Griffin commented. “I can attest he is not a fan of [Cuomo]. Donald Trump is not.”
When Sunny Hostin pointed out that The New York Times reported three sources confirmed Cuomo had a phone call with Trump, Cuomo denied it.
Cuomo then added that he believes Trump wants Mamdani to win so he can label the Democratic party as “communists.”
“It’s good for Donald Trump because it’s the excuse he needs to take over New York, which he said he will do,” Cuomo said.
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
