Manchester United ace Matheus Cunha has denied claims from Luke Shaw that they are best friends, pointing to Harry Maguire as his best friend at the club. The Brazil international has settled very well into life at Old Trafford, having joined the club in a big-money move from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer.
Cunha was the subject of attention from the club's media team as they filmed his day at their Carrington training complex, with cameras following him around. In one of the first scenes, the 26-year-old spotted Shaw laughing at him and made a comment about the Englishman not being his best friend at the club. He pointed to Maguire as his best friend, explaining the reason behind his choice.
“And this guy, tells me he’s my best friend. Imagine. This is my real best friend H [Harry Maguire]. Always treats me like, regular… honest", he said (via United in Focus).Matheus Cunha caught the attention of the Red Devils after a standout season with Wolves in 2024-25, in which he scored 17 times in 36 appearances. He joined them for a fee of over £60 million and has quickly become a regular for Ruben Amorim's side.
England international Maguire is one of the leaders at Old Trafford, having been captain previously before the armband was handed to Bruno Fernandes. The 32-year-old appears to have supported Cunha throughout his start to life in Manchester, with the Brazilian having scored once in ten appearances.
