Met Gala Rewind: Look Back at Rihanna's Best Looks!

Rihanna’s Met Gala fashion is just too good.

Indeed, after skipping out on 2024 event due to the flu, the “Umbrella singer” is returning to the Met for the annual fashion gala, which is themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” And the question isn’t whether she’ll bring the house down with her look but rather how—given she is among the best dressed attendees of all time.

For this year’s festivities, she’ll join longtime partner A$AP Rocky—who she first walked the Met Gala red carpet with in 2021—who is co-chairing the event along with Colman DomingoLewis Hamilton and Pharrell Williams.

Having previously co-hosted the event herself, Rihanna, 37, is no stranger to the event chaired by Anna Wintour. The first Met Gala she attended was in 2007, making her debut in a white Georges Chakra gown paired with a white rose for the theme “Poiret: King of Fashion.”

The “Love on the Brain” singer has continued to partner with fashion powerhouses including Dolce & GabbanaTom Ford, Valentino and more to create her iconic looks. Her personal favorite looks, according to an April 2024 Instagram video with British Vogue, are from 2014 and 2015.

For the former, which boasted the theme was “Charles James: Beyond Fashion,” and Rihanna donned a white two-piece designed by Stella McCartney. The collar was embellished with silver pieces, and she wore her hair is a messy up-do.

The following year, the theme was “China: Through the Looking Glass,” and the “Work” singer partnered with Chinese designer Guo Pei. She wore a yellow coat dress, the train cascading down the steps behind her, with a golden headpiece styled in her red bob.

For her 2018 look, leaning heavily into the theme “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination,” Rihanna dressed as the Pope, stunning in silver beaded mini-dress, coat and mitre. The papal look garnered a lot of attention for her co-hosting duties that year.

Now, the Fenty Beauty founder—who shares kids RZA Athelston Mayers, 3, and Riot Rose Mayers, 23 months with A$AP Rocky—is ready to sit back a bit, sharing how motherhood has influenced her work.

Despite not attending the event in 2024, she did share that her planned look was going to be, “chill.”

“I know you think I’m lying,” she told E! News April 2024. “It’s chill.”

To her, being a mom and working means being intentional with her time. “Everything has to be intentional,” she shared. “Everything has to be worth it—especially when it takes me away from them.”
