All eyes are on Yankees' Schlittler following Fried masterclass on opening night

The New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants are set to do battle once again in the middle of their opening three-game series. The Yanks were able to use their powerful bats and superb pitching to shut out the Giants on Opening Night in the Netflix special.

After Max Fried put on a masterclass, it is now time for Cam Schlittler to take the mound and either repeat or one-up that performance. No pressure.

Alleviate the biggest question mark for 2026

Going into the season, the biggest question mark about the Yankees was their ability to control the game from the mound. Obviously, with the lineup that they have, they can stay within earshot of any game as long as the pitching stands up.

Fried made short work of the Giants on opening night, allowing just two hits in 6.1 innings. With ace pitcher Gerrit Cole on the 15-day Injured List, it is important that Schlittler has a strong opening showing to start 2026.

With a 4-3 record in 2025, Schlittler was a joy to watch in his 14 starts. In 73 innings, he established a great ability to sit batters down on his own with 84 strikeouts. The 6”6’ starter with an ability to touch 99 MPH on his fastball also has some nasty secondary pitches to be a high-strikeout threat.

Can Schlittler keep the Yankees’ winning ways going, from the mound, in 2026 and grab the second win of the year?
