Aliyah Boston injury update: Fever star exits Storm game after frightening fall

Aliyah Boston’s strong start against the Seattle Storm came to a sudden and concerning end Tuesday night.

The Indiana Fever center left the game during the second quarter after crashing hard to the floor at Climate Pledge Arena. Boston landed directly on her right knee and immediately reached for the injured area as teammates and members of Indiana’s training staff rushed over to check on her.

Boston was eventually helped to her feet and taken to the locker room. Although the Fever initially listed her as questionable to return, she did not check back into Indiana’s 103-93 victory. The scene was especially troubling because Boston has already battled a lower right leg injury this season. She played only five minutes in Saturday’s WNBA All-Star Game, giving her additional time to rest before the Fever resumed their regular-season schedule.

What happened to Aliyah Boston?

Boston was injured midway through the second quarter while running a pick-and-roll with Caitlin Clark. After setting a screen, Boston rolled toward the basket and appeared to get tangled up with Storm rookie Flau’jae Johnson. Her momentum carried her forward, and her right knee absorbed much of the impact when she hit the court.

Boston remained down as play stopped. She grimaced in pain before being helped off the floor. The injury interrupted an excellent start for the four-time All-Star. Boston had already scored 11 points in just eight minutes, making all five of her field-goal attempts. She also collected two rebounds and appeared headed for another productive night before the fall.

Indiana announced before the second half that Boston was questionable to return. The team did not provide a more detailed diagnosis during the game.

Fever overcome Boston’s early exit

The Fever were able to protect their lead without Boston and complete a season sweep of Seattle. Indiana improved to 18-10, while the Storm dropped to 6-24. Boston’s status now becomes the more important concern.

The former No. 1 overall pick missed the first WNBA game of her career earlier this season because of a lower right leg injury. She also entered the 2026 campaign after suffering a right lower extremity injury during the Unrivaled season. Boston had been playing some of the best basketball of her career before Tuesday’s setback. She entered the game averaging 17.3 points and 8.5 rebounds while shooting 46.9 percent from 3-point range.

Indiana has a quick turnaround, with a road game against the Portland Fire scheduled for Thursday. That gives Boston only one full day to recover before the Fever play again. The fact that Indiana initially called her questionable instead of immediately ruling her out offered some reason for optimism. Still, her inability to return and recent injury history will keep the focus on any update the Fever provide before Thursday’s game.
