It had been a long time coming for Alijah Arenas.
The USC Trojans freshman and son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas, he finally got to make his college basketball debut on Wednesday night against Northwestern.
Arenas had been involved in a car crash in April that required him to be put into an induced coma due to smoke inhalation.
He then needed surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee, which delayed his return to basketball.
Finally, Arenas returned to practice last month, and he made his debut Wednesday night at home.
It was an introduction to college hoops that showed flashes of Arenas' potential but also showed he'll have some rust to shake off.
The highlight came when Arenas attacked the hoop and managed to score on a 360-degree spin layup:

— Legion Hoops (@LegionHoops) January 22, 2026The reality featured a 3-for-15 shooting night, including missing all six of his 3s, while going just 2-for-6 from the line. He added two rebounds and two assists in 29 minutes.
Northwestern defeated USC, 74-68.
Arenas was a McDonald's All-American and a five-star recruit, and it was just good to see him back on the court. There are surely plenty of good things to come.
