Germany's Alexander Zverev will take on the Netherlands' Tallon Griekspoor in the group stage of the United Cup 2026.

An injury forced Zverev to abandon his United Cup campaign after a couple of matches last year. Nevertheless, he recovered in time to reach the final of the Australian Open, ultimately going down to defending champion Jannik Sinner. His results over the next couple of months were underwhelming.

Zverev showed signs of resurgence with a title at the BMW Open at the start of the clay swing. He capped off his time on clay with quarterfinal appearances at the Italian Open and the French Open. A runner-up finish at the Boss Open in Stuttgart, followed by a semifinal in Halle didn't lead to a strong showing at Wimbledon, where he lost in the first round.

The German similarly performed well in the lead-up to the US Open, only to lose in the third round of the season's final Major. Another runner-up finish, this time in Vienna, marked his best result towards the end of the season. He bowed out of the ATP Finals in the group stage, and finished the season ranked No. 3.

Griekspoor attained a couple of new milestones in 2025. He progressed to his maiden Masters 1000 quarterfinal at the Indian Wells Masters, and similarly advanced to the fourth round of a Major for the first time at the French Open. He won his only title of the year at the Mallorca Championships, and eventually finished the season within the top 30.

Griekspoor snapped his five-match losing skid against Zverev to upset him in three sets at last year's Indian Wells Masters. However, their next two matches were a bust. The Dutchman retired from their French Open contest, and didn't even take to the court for their duel in Vienna.

Griekspoor posted a 30-23 record in 2025, while Zverev compiled a 57-25 record. The former has a 0-2 record at the United Cup, while the latter has a 6-3 record, and led Germany to the title in 2024, even saving a championship point in the final against Hubert Hurkacz.

While Griekspoor did manage to one-up Zverev last year, the latter was in the middle of a slump during that period. If both give it their best in their upcoming showdown, then the German will be favored to win based on his record in this rivalry.
