Alex Cooper and Matt Kaplan’s Journey to Growing Their Family Gang

Alex Cooper Is Pregnant, Expecting First Baby With Husband Matt Kaplan

Daddy Gang’s founding father Alex Cooper is going to be a mom.

The Call Her Daddy host is expecting her first baby with husband Matt Kaplan, debuting her bump with Instagram photos she captioned "our family" May 17.

"Honestly happy I can finally stop trying to hide the bump," the 31-year-old added on Instagram Stories, “lol.”

And while Cooper and Kaplan have also recently seen a bump in headlines—with reports about their company Trending and her feud with Alix Earle drawing attention—the couple has continued to stand by each other’s sides, walking the red carpet together at YouTube’s Brandcast event in New York just days before announcing her pregnancy.

Perhaps fans shouldn’t be surprised Cooper and Kaplan wanted to keep the baby news to themselves for a bit. Because while her podcast has become a place for people to spill, the media mogul and the film producer kept much of their relationship private in the beginning—including his name.

When they first started dating in 2020, Cooper simply referred to Kaplan as "Mr. Sexy Zoom Man"—an alias inspired by their first interaction during a business meeting.

"I got on Zoom and immediately started thinking, 'Wow, this producer is very handsome—but, stay focused Alex,'" she recalled to Vogue in 2024. "There were about five other people on the Zoom from his company, but I kept just staring at Matt’s video square.”

And Kaplan was just fine with the moniker.

“I think that name that she created was silly but honest to how we met," the 42-year-old said in the 2025 documentary Call Her Alex. "I think it allowed me to ease my way into the Call Her Daddy fandom because I enjoy being a behind-the-scenes person."

The two later connected offline, going out for sushi in Los Angeles for their first date.

"You know those people you meet immediately that you feel like you’ve known each other for so long?" Cooper said on Call Her Daddy in August 2020. "We immediately vibed, and it was just like, 'Oh my god. We’re going to get along so well.'"

So well—with her detailing their "sexcapades" on the Call Her Daddy episode "The Sloppy Toppy Delight"—that, in February 2021, Cooper confirmed she was officially in a relationship with Mr. Sexy Zoom Man.

"I don’t know if I ever really had a healthy relationship in my life with a guy," the podcaster shared on YouTube at the time. "I’m just nervous because he is exactly what I’ve ever wanted. What if I go for it and I have this amazing guy and then I do something stupid or self-sabotage it?"

"I want this more than anything I’ve probably wanted in so long," she continued, "and that’s probably why I’m scared."

Still, Cooper took the plunge. And while she didn’t initially see herself getting married, she later gave Kaplan the green light to propose—revealing their engagement and his identity in April 2023.

"One thing about Matt Kaplan—he is the most romantic man I have ever met in my life," Cooper told Vogue about the proposal, which consisted of a fake photoshoot so she’d be in a glam, a scavenger hunt at their home and a surprise party full of family and friends. "I’m a very lucky woman."

She and Kaplan—who was previously married to Claire Holttied the knot in Mexico the following year. However, Cooper didn’t want anyone calling her mommy just yet.

“I know he’s going to be the most incredible father to our babies, but I realized I need more time," she said on a June episode of Call Her Daddy. "And that’s tough to say out loud, but I realized I need time to live a little more before I enter the next beautiful chapter of my life. I’m in no way saying I have to stop everything once I’m a mom. If anything, what I’m saying is I want to be so f--king present.”

And now Cooper is fully ready to add a little one to their family gang. To see stars who've already joined the parenting club, keep reading.
