Alejandro Garnacho's 'will see what happens next' comment sparks uncertainty over Man United future

4 hours ago 1

Last night was the end of all hopes for Manchester United in the ongoing campaign. The Red Devils suffered a 1-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final on May 21, at San Mames, Bilbao.

Man United stand 16th in the Premier League table with 39 points and one match remaining. With their loss in the Europa League final, the Red Devils will go without European football in the next campaign for the first time since the 2014-15 season.

Along with this setback for the upcoming season, Alejandro Garnacho has now cast doubts on his future at Old Trafford. The 20-year-old was not named in Man United's starting squad in the Europa League final, a decision by head coach Ruben Amorim that was frowned upon by many.

Despite being a regular starter in every knockout match and making five goal contributions in 15 matches in the Europa League, Garnacho was named on the bench in the final. He finally came on, replacing Mason Mount in the 71st minute.

During his 19 minutes on the pitch, Garnacho had one shot on target while being involved in one key pass. The Man United academy graduate was understandably unhappy with the limited minutes he received in the final and appears to be considering his options this summer.

What did Alejandro Garnacho say after Man United's defeat in UEL final?

Speaking after the crushing defeat, Garnacho addressed Man United's underwhelming run this season. He then spoke about his game time in the final, mentioning (comments via Sky Sports) that he would 'see what happens next' regarding the future.

"Obviously it's hard for everyone. Our season was s***. We didn't beat anyone in the league. We lacked a lot of things. When you don't score goals, you always need more," he said.

"Until we reached the final, I played every round. And I played 20 minutes today... I don't know. I'm going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens next," concluded Garnacho.

His brother Roberto Garnacho took to Instagram right after the clash and uploaded a story in support of the Argentina international while aiming a dig at the decision to not include him in the starting XI, with the caption:

"Working as no on else, Helping every round, coming from 2 goals last 2 finals, just to be on the pitch 19 mins nd get thrown under the bus, wowe hajjahhahaha"

While Garnacho may reconsider his upcoming time at Old Trafford, Former Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson thinks the winger should '100 percent' continue his stay at the club.

What's Darron Gibson's verdict on Alejandro Garnacho?

While speaking to AceOdds.com, Gibson heaped praise on Garnacho and his efforts on the pitch for Man United, claiming, 'he gives it everything.' The Irishman also mentioned the club 'should keep' the young talent and 'he will improve.'

"Garnacho, 100 percent for me he's got to stay. I think although this year maybe his end product hasn't been great, the one thing you can't take away from him is that he puts in 100 percent effort every game. He tries to get at people, take on defenders, and create chances. Sometimes the end product isn’t there and you can criticise him for his defending, but he gives it everything," he said.

"He’s young, the manager can teach him. There’s a lot of pressure on him right now and maybe that’s why he’s being criticised more than he should be. But I think they should keep him and he will improve," Gibson added.

With his contract at Man United valid until the summer of 2028, it remains to be seen what Garnacho decides about his future this summer.
