He played for the UCLA Bruins during his collegiate days before spending 10 years playing in the MLB. Roberts took over as the manager of the Dodgers back in November 2015.

On Wednesday's episode of the "Hey Coach" show, Kalen DeBoer shared details about his friendship with Dave Roberts.

"He's a pretty special person," the Alabama coach said. "Just developed a great relationship. Obviously, he's a manager. He runs an organization. And you tak about fights, right? Those guys kept fighting. I was certainly rooting for them ( in the World Series) and it was good to see those guys pull that off."

Kalen DeBoer heaps praise on Alabama's defense

In the post-game press conference, DeBoer praised his team's defense and the way they played against the LSU Tigers on the field. He highlighted their improvement with each passing day.

The Crimson Tide are ranked as the 24th-best team in terms of total defense this season.

"I feel like they have been playing solid," DeBoer said. "I feel like they just turned a corner and I feel like they keep getting better. I feel like they, last week, I think there were some things we gave up in explosives on one play. And I thought we were stingy at times. "But I think there is a mindset that they have. I think there's a mindset that is build on trust, and guys are doing their job. There's less of the explosive plays where one guys makes a mistake, doesn't fit a gap. We're seeing less and less of that. So, again, just doing your job. ... I like the way that they play, I like their mindset."

Alabama is 8-1 after Saturday's win with an eight-game winning streak. They are next scheduled to face the Oklahoma Sooners next weekend. at 3:30 p.m. ET.
