First, thank you to everyone who commented on my original post and offered advice, encouragement, and kindness. I've read every comment, even if I haven't had the energy to reply to everyone.

The last couple of days have been a blur of bottle feedings every few hours, potty breaks, and very little sleep.

I took Pluto back to the vet yesterday, and I got some encouraging news. The vet said that if Pluto had truly developed severe feline parvo (aka feline

  • 05

distemper), a kitten this tiny would most likely have died by now. That was a huge relief to hear and lessened my anxiety for sure.

He was mildly dehydrated, so he got more subcutaneous fluids and was dewormed. His belly is soft, he's got a great appetite, and he continues to eat regularly.

  • 08

The best news is that he's slowly gaining weight. When I first brought him home he weighed 165g. This morning he weighed 192g before breakfast. He's still

pretty tiny compared to a typical 3-week-old kitten, so we have a long road ahead, but he's moving in the right direction.

His favorite place to sleep is wrapped in a ridiculously soft blanket over a warm water bottle, and he's becoming quite opinionated about his feeding schedule.

  • 12

We're definitely not out of the woods yet, but for the first time since I found him, I feel more hopeful that he's going to pull

through. Now I'm focusing on ensuring I can cover all his vet visits. His next follow up is in 2 weeks so I'll keep everyone posted!

  • 14

Thank you all again for rooting for my tiny little Lord of the Underworld.

ShartlesAndJames opinions are good! yay Pluto! - and yay YOU for being awesome <3

  • One of the best signs a rescue kitten is starting to feel better is when they begin making demands. A kitten that's too weak usually sleeps through everything and barely has the energy to fuss. Once they start complaining that breakfast is five minutes late or insisting on sleeping in one very specific spot, you know their personality is starting to win out over survival mode. Pluto's tiny list of demands might sound funny, but they're exactly the kind of progress everyone loves to see.

OldSea3040 You sure seem dedicated to this guy. Looks like he is in good hands

The-CatCat-1 This is indeed very encouraging news! I can't get over how tiny he is Keep up the good work, because it's obviously paying off. You'll be able to catch up on your sleep soon

    leighla33 That whittle belly! D

  • A kitten soup belly is one of those things that never gets old. That tiny, round tummy after a good meal is equal parts adorable and reassuring, especially when it's attached to a rescue kitten who's been fighting so hard to grow. Pluto has earned every gram on that little belly, and hopefully it'll keep getting rounder with every bottle.

Inner_Swordfish7475 Aww, Pluto becoming opinionated about his meals is very encouraging. He is a little fighter.♥

Cat Lady3000 Go you! That is a special achievement to bring a kitten that small out of the woods. I hope he continues on the up and the next update is of him driving you nuts.

  • 22

HopefulTrick3846 Good luck!!! Sending love to Pluto!

  • 23

South-Agent-2782 Thank you for the update and for taking such excellent care of him.

  • 24

M4nic_M0th We are all rooting for you, Pluto

  • We'll definitely be keeping an eye out for Pluto's next update. Watching him go from a fragile little bottle baby to a kitten with an appetite, a favorite sleeping spot, and a few demands of his own has been such a rewarding journey to follow. He's still got some growing to do, but every update has been a little brighter than the last. Here's hoping the next one comes with an even bigger number on the scale and another healthy dose of Pluto's cattitude.
