A major star has made a bold declaration about AEW. They claimed that the future of one of their closest partners may be in jeopardy if the current situation does not change.

The Jacksonville-based promotion and NJPW have had an interesting partnership, which has seen stars from both companies closely working together. It goes without saying that their partnership is closer than ever, with Konosuke Takeshita standing as the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. His reign may be at jeopardy as he'll be facing Yota Tsuji in a title vs. title match at Wrestle Kingdom 2

While speaking to Tokyo Sports, Tsuji publicly criticized Takeshita. He spoke about The Alpha not appearing for NJPW despite being the world champion. He believed he was just making up excuses for this, and despite how great he was, he believed that the AEW star was self-centered.

“That’s exactly why he’s so pathetic. He’s blaming others, saying he isn’t booked because the promotion didn’t offer. He’s making it someone else’s fault. I believe a champion should be someone who protects the promotion. He just wants to show off his own strength, doesn’t he? I admit he is an incredible athlete—I’m saying this based on that fact—but he’s just a pathetic, self-satisfied jerk.

The 32-year-old spoke about the implications of their match. He claimed that if Takeshita continues to stay champion, he was worried that NJPW would become a farm for AEW. Yota felt that there was more weight on his shoulders to come out as the victor at Wrestle Kingdom.

“If this situation continues into next year, New Japan Pro-Wrestling is in real danger. In a true sense, New Japan will just become a ‘farm’ (developmental system) for AEW. That’s why the responsibility placed on me is so heavy. After seeing this match order, my desire to revive the IWGP Heavyweight title and restore its value has grown even stronger.” [H/T Fightfu]

Konosuke Takeshita is a favorite to win the AEW Continental Classic

The IWGP World Heavyweight Champion is entered into this year's Continental Classic under the Blue League. He is gunning for Kazuchika Okada's Continental Championship.

As of now, he is tied with Claudio Castagnoli for the top spot of the Blue League, taking two wins and one draw. His match with Claudio was the first time limit draw of the tournament, and one where neither man was satisfied with the outcome. They ended up brawling post-match.

Continental Classic updated standings: Gold League: Speedball 6 Okada 6 PAC 6 Fletcher 6 Knight 3 Perry 0 Blue League: Takeshita 7 Claudio 7 Orange 6 Moxley 6 Dorada 3 Roddy 0 4-way tie right now in Gold League. Roderick Strong has been mathematically eliminated.

Takeshita could end up with three belts if he wins the Continental Classic and takes down Yota Tsuji at Wrestle Kingdom. He'll undoubtedly be at the top of the roster if this happens.
