With the holiday season approaching, employees around the world are celebrating success this year with products and experiences they have earned through year-round recognition in the Achievers platform. Rather than traditional presents from a boss, these rewards are redeemed directly through the Achievers Marketplace using points accumulated from frequent, monetary recognition received from managers and peers.

The science-backed impact of “peer bonuses”
Article content
The best way to ensure employees’ reward points accumulate, allowing them to put praise toward car payments or home upgrades, is to give individual contributors their own budget for monetary recognition, which Achievers refers to as “peer bonuses.” Monetary recognition from peers plays a critical role in strengthening workplace connection, especially during a time of year when loneliness and burnout can peak and when more substantial incentives, such as year-end bonuses, may be reduced. Employees who feel highly connected to their peers are three times more likely to envision a long-term career at their company, 4.7 times more likely to be engaged, and 5.4 times more likely to experience a strong sense of belonging. Yet only 21% of employees report feeling connected to their workforce.

“Empowering employees to turn coworker compliments into tangible rewards does more than just bring that Christmas morning feeling year-round; it drives measurable business outcomes,” said David Bator, Managing Director of Achievers Workforce Institute (AWI). “Big or small, rewards matter. Three-quarters (75%) of employees say they’d walk out the door if their employer removed rewards like gift cards, swag, or redeemable points. Yet too often, rewards are missing from the toolkit HR leaders rely on to show employees they’re valued. With 42% of HR leaders reporting that they either don’t have a rewards marketplace or limit point-giving to leaders, it’s an area that warrants greater attention.”

Achievers’ global rewards marketplace, Reward™, is home to over 3 million rewards, serves 190 countries thanks to the world’s largest in-country fulfillment network, and recently ranked No.1 on G2’s Enterprise Grid® for Rewards and Incentives. The company consistently strives to expand the marketplace’s capabilities, most recently launching the Top Up feature for U.S. and Canada, which enables members to use both points and personal funds (via their credit card) to redeem. This feature’s usage has been skyrocketing, offering more inspiration for great rewards, like PlayStations and plane tickets home for the holidays.
