AC Milan's Rafael Leao ready to depart San Siro in transfer window

AC Milan just wrapped up what was quite the underwhelming season, finishing firmly in the fifth spot in the Serie A, which is enough to see them return to the European stage, in the Europa League rather than the bright lights of the Champions League.

While the Italian side is currently looking for a new manager following their sacking of Massimiliano Allegri, it appears they could look to fill another void in their team, as they could lose a key part of their front line in the coming months: Rafael Leao.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the Portuguese winger has expressed his desire to depart the San Siro in a recent interview with Sport TV.

“I’m proud as I made history at AC Milan but I want new chapter. I feel ready to play in another league,” Leao stated, as translated by Romano. “I did my best for Milan, but it’s time to try another challenge.”

The 26-year-old has been a key part of AC Milan’s attack over the years, recording 80 goals and 59 assists during his time in Italy thus far. He made his move to the San Siro back in early 2019 for € 49.50 million, coming over from Lille in Ligue 1.

While there isn’t any further information on where the 26-year-old is to go for the next chapter of his career, it appears that he could go for as low as 43 million, according to a report by Football Insider.

For now, this will be on the back burner of Leao’s mind as he gets ready to play for his national team in the upcoming FIFA World Cup, with Portugal’s first match, going against Uzbekistan, coming on June 17.
