Aaron Rodgers has "zero percent" chance of coming to Broncos despite wild rumor

1 hour ago 3

It's April Fool's Day and you have been reading one ridiculous rumor after another today, right? Each one is usually pretty easy to spot as being a joke. But a rumor has emerged from Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk that the Denver Broncos could be interested in bringing in future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Wait, what?

"There’s talk of the Broncos possibly bringing Rodgers in for a visit. The motivation comes from the possibility that current starter Bo Nix won’t be fully and completely back to 100 percent when Week 1 rolls around", wrote Florio.

Where this information could be coming from is an interesting question, especially given recent reports that Bo Nix is actually further along in the offseason program than he usually is, despite having to recover from a broken ankle.

This one is so out there that it feels like it almost has to be an April Fool's joke, but Florio doesn't seem to be reporting it as one. However, Broncos insider Mike Klis, citing a source, says there is no chance that this actually happens.

Report #Broncos have interest in Aaron Rodgers must be an April Fool’s joke.
Source says “zero percent” chance of this happening.
As Greg Penner, Sean Payton and George Paton just said at NFL meetings, QB Bo Nix will be ready by start of offseason program on May 4. Full go by…

Aaron Rodgers coming to Denver makes no sense

Several years ago, when this was a huge rumor, it made sense for Rodgers to come to Denver. Instead, the team traded for Russell Wilson when the Green Bay Packers wouldn't give him up. Now, it's shocking that this is even a discussion.

Even if Nix wasn't on track to play in Week 1, the Broncos have a quarterback room that they love. Regardless of how poorly you feel Jarrett Stidham played in the AFC Championship Game, he is still a high-level backup quarterback. Behind him is Sam Ehlinger, a player the coaching staff likes much more than anyone likely realizes.

Ehlinger could be the No. 2 option for several teams and he could push Stidham for that role this coming season. There is no need for Rodgers to be involved in the discussion.

On top of that, Rodgers is a competitor. He knows that this is Nix's team. He's not going to go anywhere where he isn't the starting quarterback.

It would be interesting to hear where Florio heard this idea, or if he is just trolling NFL fans, but this is a move that is not in the cards.
