A new baseball season brings the same old insufferable viewer experience

Farmers Almanac spring forecast:

“A deep, dark and foreboding sky lingers in the approaching MLB atmosphere. Fans are advised to be prepared to take cover and shelter in basements or whatever room is closest to the ground to discourage jumping from windows to escape the scene.”

Another season of telecasts — free TV, cable TV, pay-walled — is near and with no relief, no application of common sense in sight or hearing.

What no preexisting fan asked for, let alone insisted upon, will again be released to flood our good senses. After all, how many of us wouldn’t be baseball fans unless we knew the pitcher throws 36 percent split-seam fastballs, 24 percent changeups, 2 percent sweepers, throws “96 mph sinkers” and has recently added a forkball?
