Former Paris Saint-Germain star Jerome Rothen took shots at Lionel Messi earlier this year for the Argentine's comments about his time at the club. He claimed that the Inter Miami captain never turned up for the Ligue 1 side in his two seasons at the club.
Speaking on RMC Sport, Rothen slammed Messi, saying he was living in a posh area and had his kids attending a private school, while doing nothing significant on the pitch. He wants the fans to boo the Argentine at every opportunity they get and said (via GOAL):
"I did all of Leo Messi's matches at the Parc des Princes, I didn't miss a single one. Even that was a load of bullsh*t. Of course, when he has the ball at his feet, all the lights come on and the stadium lights up because this guy is a genius and has incredible talent. But really! Let the fans come with their whistles that they bought for the Olympics to boo Leo Messi with Argentina, but since he wet himself, he didn't come. At least there will be an opportunity in the United States." "His story and the fact that his family was unhappy, do you know where they lived? You know Paris and the surrounding area, they lived in Neuilly in a 500m2 house, protected from everyone and with a private school for his children. And you think that there, he was screwed. No, don't make us believe that!"Lionel Messi spent two seasons at PSG, scoring 32 goals and assisting 35 times in his 75 matches for the club.
Lionel Messi said he was unhappy every day at PSG
Lionel Messi spoke to Apple TV earlier this year, revealing that he was unhappy at PSG every day. He added that it was hard to leave Barcelona and could not adapt in Paris, and said (via BBC):
"Coming to play for Inter Miami was an opportunity and the way things developed during my last years in Paris, although it was a decision that I had to make on the go, because I had to leave from Barcelona, I went through two years which I didn't enjoy. I wasn't happy on a daily basis, with the training, the matches. I had a hard time adapting to all that. I felt called to come to Inter [Miami] because it's a club that's growing, very new, with few years as a club."Lionel Messi had the chance to move back to Barcelona in 2023, but opted to join Inter Miami instead. He has since extended his deal at the club until 2028.
